Child-Centered Parent-Child Communication Online Course

Course Introduction 

Studies have confirmed that child-centered play therapy can help children improve their overall social and emotional resilience; it has a significant effect on improving self-regulation/responsibility; children show stronger empathy and social communication through a safe therapeutic relationship and being trusted, which is significantly helpful to children experiencing trauma, anxiety, social difficulties, learning difficulties, etc. (Ray et al., 2021). The course is based on child-centered play therapy, through lectures, case and real experience sharing, practice and individual supervision to enable participants to apply child-centered concepts in their daily lives.

Course Aim 

  • To help participants master the skills of child-centered play therapy
  • Re-understand the psychological reasons behind children’s behavior to adjust communication methods
  • Through parent-child play therapy, establish a safe relationship with children, build parent-child joint emotional regulation capabilities, and allow children to build a foundation of mental health to cope with growth challenges

Course Content (A total of 8 classes and 1 individual parent-child play therapy supervision) 

  • Understand children’s emotions and developmental needs by understanding their brain development
  • Preparation and method of parent-child play therapy
  • Learn to observe and understand children’s inner world, build a sense of security, emotional regulation and empathy
  • Use gentle but firm methods to set boundaries for your child and build your child’s self-control 
  • 10 ways to build children’s self-esteem and confidence, and apply to daily academic difficulties, enabling children to face challenges and appreciate themselves
  • Apply child-centered communication methods to deal with sibling conflicts and build good sibling relationships

Target audience: Suitable for parents and teachers of kindergarten and primary school

Date: Class – July 2, 9, 16, 23; August 13, 20, 27 and September 3 (Sat), 2022 Individual Supervision (1 hour) – Individual arrangement during August

Continuing Professional Education in Family Therapy Series (CPEFT)

Family Dynamics is a Centre providing private individual, marriage and family therapy services and is committed to promote the development of happy and healthy families in Hong Kong.

The Certificate Course on ‘Introduction to Family Therapy-Level 1’ organized by Family Dynamics aims at –

  1. introducing knowledge in systemic perspective and its applications;
  2. enhancing the competency of helping professionals in their areas of practice; and
  3. facilitating effective intervention in personal growth, marital and family relationship, and mental health issues. 

The course will consist of two parts covering theory, conceptual framework, and applications of family therapy with case illustrations where applicable.

Enjoy parent-child and learn the way of parent-child in a funny creative arts

Being a parent is not easy, and how to establish a good parent-child relationship is even more headache for many parents. Have you ever thought that through different arts creation, such as visual art, music, drama, and simple body dance, combined with game activities, parents and children can enjoy the parent-child and experience the way of parent-child in a relaxing environment!

This 3-hour parent-child workshop allows parents and children to experience how to achieve 3 major goals through simple art and games in a relaxing environment:

  1. 1: Learn to express emotions and feelings in different ways,
  2. 2: Learn to listen and improve communication with each other,
  3. 3: Enhance their emotion connection and the parent-child relationship.

Sandy is a Registered Arts Therapist (AThR), with experience in combining different art modalities and traditional talk therapy for psychotherapy. She is the wellness columnist of Hong Kong Economic Journal, the column is called 《藝述樹窿》. Sandy cooperates with different multinational corporation, non-profit organization, school and rehabilitation center, supporting her clients in both group and individual setting. She has strong experience in handling family therapy, couple relationship, marriage counselling, parent-child relationship, and SEN children.
